1 of my least favored issues to do is going back to a spot I’ve been just before. I have a undesirable case of ‘been there, carried out that’ attitude my entire life. I want I understood why, but I do know that it is some thing deeply rooted in my DNA. This need to have to do some thing unique, find out new issues, and blaze new trails is what got me to exactly where I am right now, so I cannot poo poo it also a great deal.

So, when I got an invite to go back to WeeCasa, a tiny residence resort park in Lyons Colorado, I was skeptical with my ‘been there, carried out that attitude’. On the other hand, a single of the cool issues about a tiny residence resort is that there are 20+ tiny properties to opt for from and each and every a single is unique, so would it actually be like performing the identical thing…maybe not.

A Tiny Home Travel Offer you I Couldn’t Refuse

I had an e-mail from Stacy who lives in Dallas:
“I’m reaching out to you simply because you did a piece on WeeCasa Tiny Home Resort back in June of 2017. You shared a couple of images of my tiny residence, the Pa Dutch, in that function and I wanted to let you know that my unit is presently in the middle of a huge renovation – it is going to actually place the GLAM in glamping – in contrast to any of the other tiny properties on the home.”

She went on to invite me to keep at her tiny residence when it was completed this summer time.

Soon after a handful of much more emails back and forth I discovered that Stacy is a classically educated musician and sings with the Dallas Symphony Chorus. She dabbles in photography as a hobby, but tends to make her living as a bid and proposal writer. Apparently, her other hobby is renovating tiny homes.

I was intrigued by her background and curious about how she got into the tiny residence craze. Why not go back and attempt out her newly renovated tiny residence at WeeCasa?

The Story of Juniper Tiny Property at WeeCasa

This is Stacy’s story of how she became a tiny residence owner (some thing I’ve secretly dreamed of performing myself). She sent me this in an e-mail when she invited me – and fairly frankly – she won me more than.

I guess I’ll inform you the story of Juniper! I developed every single aspect of the Juniper for a year just before I contracted with SimBLISSity Tiny Houses to do the renovation. In reality, I ready a 40+ slide presentation and it didn’t scare them off! (It had scared off about 4 other contractors…)

I purchased the tiny residence, then known as the PA Dutch, in the fall of 2017. I do not know a great deal about its origins, but I know it was constructed by a father and son in Maine. They brought it to Lyons and parked it at the home that is now WeeCasa, but it was a mobile residence park at the time. The PA Dutch was the only residence at the park to survive the huge flooding in 2015 – simply because it was on wheels. The owner moved it to greater ground just before the rain! Just about every other mobile residence was sadly ruined or washed away in the flood.

Kenyon Waugh, CEO of WeeCasa, can inform you much more about the history of WeeCasa Tiny Home Resort but I think the survival story of the PA Dutch was in aspect what sparked his notion for a “Tiny Property on Wheels” resort.

PA Dutch changed ownership a handful of occasions just before I came to personal it, and it just required a lot of repairs. I loved the size, I loved the all round layout, loved the cedar siding, and most of all I loved WeeCasa – getting visited as a guest twice just before, while I in no way stayed in the PA Dutch!

I purchased it practically sight unseen, and it was most likely the most reckless issue I’ve ever carried out!

It was dark, it had an old window unit mounted in a piece of plywood in the doorway, it was COLD in the winter, and it had quite a few plumbing and electrical troubles. It had a homemade Murphy bed that was falling apart, and a loft you accessed from a skinny ladder and then had to shimmy into simply because it was so close to the ceiling. The ceiling was created in aspect out of corrugated plastic – the type of stuff you would make a greenhouse out of! I was fortunate that it hadn’t however began to leak!

I spent a extended time arranging out the repairs and upgrades it required: HVAC, a new door, new bathroom, new kitchen cabinets, new flooring, tile, appliances, paint, and so forth.

When I contracted SimBLISSity, they have been unique from every single other contractor I’d met with – they have been EXCITED! It is incredibly uncommon to renovate a tiny residence as an alternative of make new, so most everybody couldn’t figure out why I wanted to alter anything. I just did. It spoke to me, it was particular.

3 months later, like the final 3 days at the workshop when I worked my tail off with the crew to touch up paint, clean anything, and set all the decor, Juniper was born. The method was not without having bumps or unforeseen troubles, but we rolled with it. She was a labor of enjoy certainly. Almost certainly the most fascinating worthwhile expertise I’ve ever had.

My Expertise in the Juniper Tiny Home

I set off with a girlfriend this August to go verify out Stacy’s ‘labor of love’ and revisit WeeCasa. Lyons is only an 80 minute drive from Denver!

Although cute, the new Juniper looked rather uncomplicated from the outdoors, but when we opened the door and stepped inside, we have been blown away. It was light, airy, open, and welcoming. I walked about surveying every single tiny style detail – the subway tile in the (complete sized!) shower, reclaimed wood, extended narrow window in kitchen, and the sleek desk with leather chair to operate at. The Juniper comfortably slept four folks. The loft upstairs supplied space to sit up in bed comfortably, and had two windows for cross ventilation in the summer time. I loved the new set of stairs that have been added which also permitted a lot of space for storage.

The tiny residence resort was just as cute as I remembered it. The manager walked me about some of the other properties also when I was there. That is the enjoyable aspect – seeing how unique and inventive each and every of the styles are! I was drawn to all of the ones that SimBLISSity constructed they had that identical remarkable consideration to detail…and some even had a complete bathtub!

They had created a handful of modifications because I had final been at the resort, like a neighborhood tiny residence with grill, outside seating, and games.

1 of the issues I actually enjoy about the resort is that you can essentially rent out the entire issue for a household reunion or wedding. Plus, they are open year-round and permit extended term rentals in the winter. I sort of fantasize about renting out the Juniper for a month in the winter and operating on a book there. 1 day…one day…

A Gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park

If you want to invest some time in Rocky Mountain National Park, but want to escape the crowds, then then working with Lyons as your base is the answer. It is only a 35 minute drive to Estes Park and most likely 45 minutes to the RMNP entrance.

We drove to the park and hiked the Upper Beaver Meadows Loop. We grabbed some lunch in Estes Park and then headed to the much more difficult Gem Lake hike.

Beaver Creek Trail

I like Estes, but I actually enjoy Lyons. It is not as crowded and I enjoy the tiny mountain town really feel of Lyons.

Do not Overlook Lyons!

The folks in this tiny neighborhood are fascinating and friendly. A lot of of them are not essentially from there, but they have adopted it as their residence. In reality, for enjoyable, you must ask a regional how they ‘got there’. You will quickly be meeting artists, musicians, boat captains, yogis, and former white-collar executives that all ended up generating Lyons their residence. Just about every particular person has an intriguing story to inform.

Stacy supplied me a handful of Lyon’s restaurant suggestions:
“The Stone Cup, just across the road, verify them out for breakfast. They’re so friendly and the coffee is great and sturdy! I also propose Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ and Mojo Taqueria, also in Lyons. Getting from Texas, I was super shocked to obtain great BBQ AND street tacos in Colorado.”

I also discovered a handful of locations of my personal, like the Spirit Hound Distillers at the edge of town. Not only does it have fantastic gin, but the straight malt whiskey is super also. Make certain you treat oneself to a single of their cocktails! The Distillery/bar is a fantastic spot to go to meet locals, and get much more suggestions from the ultra friendly bartenders. Plus, if you stroll to the distillery (only a mile from WeeCasa), you get a half cost drink!

In the summer time months you can also take a leisurely float down the river in Lyons. Just rent or bring your personal tube and appreciate the cool, winding river. In addition, there’s a lot of great hiking also about Lyons in the canyon location that surrounds it.

Wee Casa Tiny Property Resort

Soon after my 2nd keep at WeeCasa, I realized it is a spot worth going back to for a tiny escape from Denver. I was so content I went back to and knowledgeable the all new Juniper. In addition to Juniper, there are 20+ unique tiny properties to attempt out – so it is a new expertise every single time!

As Stacy told me, “I hope you can really feel how particular she (Juniper) is when you pay a visit to. She was a diamond in the rough, a survivor, and all round fascinating becoming – just like the folks of Lyons.”
