Sea Arches, Hot Pots and the Blue Lagoon – TRAVELLING THE Globe SOLO

[ad_1]

Day six of of our Ring Road adventure involved driving from Akureyri to Blönduós. There are not a tonne of noteworthy stops on this drive, so we decided to get off of Route 1 and take the longer and windier scenic route along the coast.

Ólafsfjörður

We under no circumstances intended to quit in Ólafsfjörður, but when we spotted one particular of these huge blow-up bouncy factors that you discover in Australian caravan parks, we merely couldn’t resist pulling more than and getting a bounce.

Seyðisfjörður

We stopped in Seyðisfjörður for lunch as we had heard that the fish and chips had been worth the quit we had been shocked to discover that not only had been the fish and chips utterly delish, the town was also quaint, colourful and beautiful!

Gladheimar Cottages

That evening we spent the evening in a cosy tiny cottage subsequent to a scenic river. The appeal of these cottages had been the presence of outside hot tubs, but we totally stuffed up ours! We filled it up with what we believed was pretty warm water but essentially turned out to be exceptionally hot. We hoped the water would cool, but even hours later it was nonetheless about 40°C!

On day seven we had been to head from Blönduós to Hellnar, but there had been a couple of stops to make along the way.

Grábrók

Grábrók Crater is the biggest of 3 craters in a compact volanic fissure. I feel it is one particular of these areas that appears much better from above, but it was nonetheless a fantastic excuse to get out of the automobile and stretch our legs.

On our drives we also spotted this incredible herd of horses galloping down the road subsequent to us – so beautiful!

Landbrotalaug

Landbrotalaug is a teeny tiny hot spring in the Snaefellsness Peninsula. There was only just adequate area for the 3 of us to comfortably sit inside!

The complete issue was pretty the laughable affair. We weren’t ready to go swimming and I couldn’t discover my bather bottoms, so I ended up going in my undies, and of course it was the day when I was wearing my daggiest, ugliest and most worn out pair – not a excellent appear!

Also, when we arrived there was a beautiful Euro couple getting a soak, so we had to wait for them to leave prior to we could get in, and by the identical token, when yet another group arrived right after us, we had to leave to give them a turn.

It wasn’t pretty as relaxing as a bigger hot spring would be, but it was totally a distinctive practical experience.

Gatklettur, AKA the Arnastapi Sea Arch

Gatklettur is a naturally formed rock arch which is situated involving the villages of Arnastapi and Hellnar. I had hoped to clamber up to the major of the arch (do it for the ‘gram and all that) but when we visited it was seriously rainy, windy and wild – my much better judgement told me to hold my feet on much more steady ground.

The Blue Lagoon

Day eight was our day to drive back to Reykjavik, as we would all be departing Iceland and going our seperate techniques the following day. Even so, we all had really early morning flights, so even although the Blue Lagoon is just a handful of minutes from the airport, the only way we would be capable to go was to pay a visit to the day prior to.

This was my third time going to the Blue Lagoon, and regardless of it becoming the most effective climate I’d ever encountered there, it was also the busiest I’d ever observed it.

The Blue Lagoon is totally touristy and overpriced, but if you are going to Iceland for the very first time, I’d nonetheless advise that you go.

Even so, if you are on a return trip as I was, and if you have swum in this lagoon for the duration of much less busy instances, it could be worth providing it a miss.

Do not get me incorrect, I had a fantastic time, but the quantity of entirely obnoxious vacationers (mainly hailing from one particular nation which shall stay nameless) certainly did place a dampener on factors.

We left Iceland the subsequent day, and even although I have now been to the Land of Fire and Ice 4 instances, I nonetheless can not rule out a return trip one particular day.

Soon after all, a nation this gorgeous is just worth braving the crowds for!
