My house renovation: Living Room Reveal!
It has been a handful of weeks due to the fact my final weblog post (oops!) but it has been such a busy time on the tools – managing my time amongst the finish of a paint brush, a hiking trip to South Australia and managing the firms back in Tasmania all at after.
If you are new right here, I’ve not too long ago place down roots in my hometown Launceston (Tasmania) soon after seven years living out of a suitcase. Aside from travel blogging I handle my time amongst a couple of unique ventures – namely my dessert cafe/bakery Charlie’s Dessert Property and bridal retailer Tiny White Boutique.
When I’m not travelling the planet taking images and sharing my experiences on Instagram and Youtube, you will discover me right here in Tasmania juggling employees rosters, menu rotations, new ideas and chasing new bridal designers from a single style week to the subsequent!
My new townhouse
Final month I shared the fascinating news that I had bought my initially property (I previously owned a tiny apartment) in my hometown in Tasmania. Whilst I do not feel it will slow down my travels also substantially (I’m nevertheless a gypsy at heart), I was truly starting to crave a small much more stability – a spot to rest my head amongst trips, a space that inspired me and that was my personal.
I bought this 1890’s terrace residence in my hometown in Tasmania as a new project and my initially foray in to property renovations. Right after just 4 weeks in the new spot (two weeks of which I was travelling), I’ve completed my initially space and wanted to share some snaps for anybody else interested in renovating or property design and style.
Just as I travel the planet solo, I’ve entered in to the renovation procedure solo and rather than seeking at the apparent cons to obtaining a large residence to myself, I’ve embraced the truth that I get to design and style my property specifically as I want!
I’ve opted for a comparatively minimal property design and style with mid-century furnishings for the bigger pieces, coupled with a handful of colourful accents right here and there in largely earthy tones (browns, greens and a splash of burnt orange).
Renovating the Living Room
I chose to renovate my living space initially for the reason that I wanted to make a space I could reside in and truly appreciate when I came property amongst my adventures. The living space was initially carpeted (see the just before images right here) with blue walls and colourful drapes.
Right after ripping up the carpets and sanding back the floorboards, I had a qualified come in to varnish the floors and restore them to their original state. I spent ten days (straight) painting the skirting boards and walls, but opted for a small assist with the extremely higher ceilings by obtaining a painter come in to do these (and the rest of the residence) although I was away hiking in South Australia.
The Vital Pieces
All through my property renovation procedure I want to make certain I make a space I appear forward to coming property to. It has been a quickly-paced seven and a half years travelling the planet nearly non-cease and my most significant concentrate in 2019 is to slow down and appreciate the smaller moments.
The most crucial piece in my property so far has been my piano, which I bought a couple of years ago and had left sitting in storage till I had a property for it. Obtaining played the piano due to the fact I was a handful of years old, I discover playing an escape from reality and it has grow to be a large element of my happiness more than the years.
An additional crucial piece in my living space was my Crosley record player. I’ve been collecting vinyls more than the years and nevertheless appreciate listening to my LP’s, dancing about the residence to tunes by The Supremes, Nat King Cole, or my modern day favourites The Tesky Brothers.
My living space is also now property to a handful of essential decorative pieces – every of which have a prominent value or remind me of a spot, individual, or feeling. I fell in like with Le Labo’s “Cedre” scented candle on my final stop by to New York and with my by no means-ending like affair with the city, chose to splurge on the scent and have my living space take me back to the city any time I pick out.
My favourite conversation began The Proust Questionnaire sits proudly on my coffee table and is my favourite way to entertain guests by asking a handful of not-so-uncomplicated concerns and seeing exactly where the conversation leads.
Up subsequent: my bedroom reveal! Keep tuned for much more updates of my adventures at property in amongst trips. I’d like to hear from you in the comments beneath!
