Taking a Train from Innsbruck to Brixen in South Tyrol (ÖBB EuroCity)

I knowledgeable 1 of the most wonderful sceneries, upon my train ride from Innsbruck in Austria to Brixen in Italy. Train Travel will be 1 of my travel priorities this year, 1 of the a lot of side effects are the amazing views I will collect by means of the train window. I arrived at Innsbruck HB (Hauptbahnhof = central station) with a lot of time to adjust trains as soon as far more, prior to arriving at my final location in South Tyrol.

The Eurocity Train, officially operated by Deutsche Bahn but working with Austrian ÖBB carriages, has been a rather older train the day of my travel. No energy sockets, no wifi, but an onboard restaurant. At least! The lack of conveniences (energy, net) is clearly anything to preserve in thoughts, as the train circles in among Munich and Bologna, which is a 7-hour journey 1-way for the complete trip. My section of the route, from Innsbruck to Bressanone in Brixen only requires roughly 1 1/two hours. When the Brenner Base tunnel celebrates its opening in 2026, the travel time will be reduce in pretty much half – so seeking forward to this! But, as the majority of the travel time will then be spent in a tunnel, I’d propose to soak up the wonderful alpine views as extended as achievable.

On my day of travel, regrettably, a lot went a bit distinctive than anticipated. It began with the train arriving a bit delayed. Just a handful of minutes, almost everything seemed fine. If the EuroCity Train towards Bologna is on time, it will come about six minutes prior to departure, providing passengers a lot time to come across a seat or their reserved seat, and the other guests, of course, to pack almost everything up and leave the train.
Just soon after leaving Innsbruck train station, the adventure started. In a tunnel, we abruptly felt an abrupt loss of drive and stopped right away. In the middle of a pitch-black dark tube, with no telephone reception. Excellent. I guess I wasn’t the only passenger imagining yet another passenger (or even worse freight) train just crashing into us unstopped. It took a very good 15 minutes till we drove on till we stopped once more, rolled, came to yet another quick halt and ultimately created our way across Brenner and in the end to Bressanone / Brixen, my final location. All of this, of course, was a special occasion and possibly will not occur once more on this exact same route. Nonetheless, it did price me far more than 1 hour and some unfavourable fantasies.
