Note: This is an updated version of my original post written for NomadApp.
As I am updating this post I am beginning my round-the-planet travels: initial cease, Colombia! I am meeting up with Kelli and Luisa, a couple of good friends I met by way of the travel neighborhood, to adventure about Colombia for a week, then meeting my parents in Los Angeles for a couple of days ahead of flying to Australia.
I have told you guys all about how I saved revenue to travel and planned my trip in my initial two travel prep posts, and now I will be telling you about how I have gotten involved with the travel neighborhood. I am in enjoy with the sharing economy and all about excellent spirit of like-minded travelers, and I am producing as a lot of connections as attainable via social media
1st of all, you could be questioning what “sharing economy” even suggests. According to dictionary.com, the definition of sharing economy is “a technique in which men and women rent, borrow, or share commodities, solutions, and sources owned by people, normally with the help of on the internet technologies, in an work to save revenue, reduce fees, and minimize waste.”
In the travel neighborhood that generally suggests travelers connect with locals to get wonderful offers on accommodations, transportation, and so forth. It is a important piece to traveling on a spending budget. I am just beginning to see how wonderful the sharing economy is, and I cannot wait to get a lot more into it and make a lot more connections all more than the planet.
I talked previously about how I produced revenue by renting out my location on AirBnb I have also met some wonderful men and women, and AirBnb is really how I got connected with the good friends I visited in Colombia! Kelli stayed at my apartment a single weekend, and we got to speaking about travel. A couple of weeks later she introduced me to Luisa and the other members of the NomadApp group and I began writing some guest posts for them.
My initial time staying at an AirBnb was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida the evening ahead of flying to Bogotá and it was wonderful. I got a space with a private entrance minutes from the airport at a wonderful price tag. I have a couple of good friends who have utilized AirBnb and enjoy it, and we will be utilizing it for various nights traveling about Colombia.
E mail me for a hyperlink to get a $35 travel credit when you sign up and book a remain at $75 or a lot more!
Couchsurfing (CS) is the epitome of “sharing economy.” When I initial heard about it months ago it produced me definitely nervous. I believed “what if a person steals all my stuff?!” Again, as with permitting strangers inside my dwelling to sell my belongings and remain via AirBnb, I have decided to stick to my gut and place faith in humanity. So far, the couple of interactions I have had thanks to CS have worked out properly.
There are not a lot of men and women traveling via Lawrence, KS (exactly where I have lived for the final couple of years), but there are typically couch surfers going to nearby Kansas City (KC). In April I reached out to a girl who is about my age who was arranging on going to KC. According to her profile she had quit her job to do a two-month cross-nation road trip. I let her know Lawrence is a super cool town and that I was receiving prepared to set out for solo traveling myself, and she ended up staying a evening with me when she came via Kansas in early Might!
We clicked ideal away and stayed up late consuming pizza, drinking wine, and speaking about travel. She is a talented graphic designer and she supplied to style my logo. She gave me a wonderful outdoors point of view, and it turned out far better than I could have imagined! Verify out her weblog right here!
In Las Vegas I met up with a nearby for a evening out via Couchsurfing – he got us into a new club with a couple of drink tickets every single for free of charge. We met up with some of his good friends and had a wonderful time speaking about traveling, exactly where we had been, and exactly where we had been going. He is moving to Spain this fall, so it is attainable I will meet up with him once again when I make my way there!
I was excited to couch surf in Austin, Texas lately, but I decided to remain at a hostel as an alternative, which was wonderful. I stayed at HK Austin – HK stands for Hostel Kid – which is co-owned by Matt Kepnes of Nomadic Matt. About half of the men and women staying there, such as my bunk mate Izzy, had been from Melbourne, Australia. This was wonderful since Melbourne is my initial cease in Australia! Izzy is back in Melbourne now and we’ll hopefully be meeting up when I am in town.
I also stayed at a hostel in Villa De Leyva, Colombia. We traveled there with some Austrian girls, met some fairly cool men and women there, and had a wonderful time.
My favored component of staying in hostels is meeting new men and women, largely other travelers, from about the planet. I have only stayed in a hostel twice and I have met men and women from six nations, all with distinctive intriguing stories. Hostels supply a social setting and make it uncomplicated to make good friends on the road.
Social media is the easiest way to connect with other travelers, each locally and internationally. I have noticed that travelers are extremely friendly, irrespective of whether they have hundreds of thousands of followers or only a couple hundred, and most will respond to emails and direct messages if you send them your travel inquiries. I have chatted on the internet and received guidance and encouragement from men and women all more than the planet. I enjoy speaking with other travelers, reading travel ideas, and seeing all the wonderful travel photographs men and women post from about the globe.
My favored social media platform has been Instagram, but I am also beginning to get into Snapchat. Individuals all more than the planet are going on amazing adventures, and I enjoy seeing their photographs and videos! I identified out about the Amsterdam Coffee Festival, Vivid Sydney, and Songkran, the Thai New Year celebrations in Bangkok, which are now on my bucket list, by way of Instagram.
I connected on Facebook and Instagram with a component-time-travel junkie on who lives in my dwelling town of Wichita, KS. She is a teacher and does really a bit of traveling through summer time break, and has a weblog committed to her “Breathtaking Adventures.” We met up for drinks in Wichita a whilst back and bonded more than our mutual wanderlust. It was definitely cool meeting a fellow wanderer from my region, and I encouraged her to do some traveling abroad.
One more wonderful way to connect with other travelers on the internet is forums. The only a single I have utilized is on Nomadic Matt (forums.nomadicmatt.com) but there are numerous other individuals. This has been a wonderful resource for me, specifically for inquiries that I could not very easily come across an answer to on travel blogs.
All in all, the travel neighborhood is great. If you are interested in traveling or arranging to travel, I would very encourage you to get connected with some people on the internet. It is a wonderful way to find out about your location, find out new areas to add to your bucket list, and network with like-minded men and women.
